Talk Talk is in my opinion a rather underestimated band.
Mark Hollis (vocals, and brother of Eddie, from Eddie And The Hot Rods) is influenced by Otis Redding, Traffic, Pink Floyd and classical composers as Debussy, Satie and Beethoven. In April ‘81, due to the punkwave, he starts Talk Talk. Thanks to Jimmy Miller, who produced their first demo, they are given the chance to record for EMI. In ‘82 their first album is released (The Party’s Over). In England the band is being compared to synthi-pop bands as Duran Duran and Kajagoogoo, much to the discontent of Mark Hollis.
After a tour with Elvis Costello through the US, they return to the studio in ‘83 to record their second album “It’s My Life”. After seven months the album is released in Februari ‘84. The titletrack, as wel as “It’s A Shame” were succesfull singlehits. The music on this album is much more based on melody and arrangements. The synthesizers are replaced by acoustic instruments.
