Paris Hilton- Stars are Blind
"Celebutante" Paris Hilton is the girl who has everything on a material level, heiress to the considerable Hilton Hotel fortune, a successful reality tv show and a regular on the already congested New York hard-party circuit. Up until this point Paris has been notorious for her personal sex video, a string of disparate lovers and in-fighting with the fresh crop of Hollywood starlets [see Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie and the Olsen Twins]. It would be an understatement to say the tide is against her with regards to a respectable career in pop (if such a thing wasn't hard enough already in today's pop climate). We will start by certifying that Paris's debut 'Stars are Blind' is a bona fide pop classic. And bonus points must be awarded for the fact that she has disregarded the penchant for going down the tried and tested electro-pop, rock-chick or hip-hop route. 'Stars are Blind' is simple, floaty, dreamy, care-free pop-reggae at it's best- perfect beach-lounging fodder. Much speculation has been made over whether Paris can actually sing, although this song isn't really vocally challenging it's not so far removed from Gwen Stefani's register. It could have been released any time in the last twenty years and would still be just what the doctor ordered. We sense Paris has a massive hit on her hands, but not only that, but if her album has a few more songs like this one, Paris might actually do the unthinkeable and achieve the pop career she so desires. We sincerely hope she calls her album "Paris is Burning".
