David "Disco D" Shayman was really a good friend of mines. Sometimes it saddens me that he is not here to see how far I've come and the how his mentoring and friendship really helped me in my career and in my life. I remember when I first met him I thought he was the craziest guy I've ever come across in the business but you know something? Looking back I realize he was one of the most coherent.
Many things that he taught me I still take heed to this very day and I really am grateful for that. He was one of the few people that really took me under the wing and treated me like family. I would spend several nights at his loft in Williamsburg, sleeping on the floor in the studio or on the couch next to Joe and I can honestly say that those were some of the best times of my life.
Its funny because you never realize some things until its too late and I really feel guilty sometimes about the whole situation. I wish I could have said something, or done something that would have changed the outcome. I remember talking to him the last time and he seemed so down. I told him "Keep ya head up D, I'm gonna do this and were gonna make classics" he never responded to me. I know there is nothing I could have done, but still it bothers me sometimes.
I do know one thing tho, as long as I am living and doing music his memory will live one. A talented and great person such as him can never be forgotten and he will always remain on my mind and in my heart.
