First, the opposable thumbs of Man evolved into detachable typewriters. Those typewriters in turn evolved into word processors, and into personal computers. As the human body and the world of the Born becomes more fragile, so the world of the Made - the machine - becomes stronger. Makes sense that if we want to physically evolve we need to either a) get the Hell off this planet or b) evolve into digital beings, right?
You know those Imps in Doom I & II? The ones that, despite being spiky great ball-of-fire throwers and generally antagonistic, were actually kind of... cute? I think they're the Missing Link. They got to where we're going before we did.
All I need to do now is find the Lost Chord and I'll have solved all of Life's Mysteries.
"You know, evolution didn't end with us growing thumbs. You do know that, right? Didn't end there. We're at the point, now, where we're going to have to evolve ideas."- Bill Hicks
