GILBY CLARKE
LONDON - 5-09-06
This could almost pass for a Soundboard show.. Very clean sound.. A bit heavy on the bass... You can't hear anyone talking.. Or loud annoying hand claps during the music..
For those who might not know - And I don't know who doesn't. But, Gilby was a hired Gun for Guns N' Roses during their Use Your Illusions Tour. Shortly before the band recorded a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" for the film Interview with the Vampire, Clarke was replaced by lead singer Axl Rose's long-time friend Paul Tobias. His firing was officially due to the amount of time he was spending on his solo career, as Axl stated. But everyone was told that there were issues between Gilby and Axl.
Axl had read an interview, where Gilby told the press that there was no new GN'R album in the making due to Axl's tyrannic attitude. In an odd twist, Axl actually jammed with Gilby in an LA club one night on, "Dead Flowers." Gilby and Axl also recorded the song for Gilby's, "Pawn Shop Guitars" album (1994).
